1948 — 2020
Dr. Bhupinder Singh Bedi
Founder of the family practice at Jefferson Medical Centre. Beloved father, husband, physician and member of the Winnipeg Sikh community. The clinic closed its doors after Dr. Bedi's sudden passing — we are preparing to reopen so his legacy of unhurried, neighbourhood care can continue.
A life of service
Dr. Bedi was born in Nagal, Punjab, India in 1948, one of five children raised in Chandigarh. He completed his medical training at Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana in 1975 and chose to dedicate his life to excellent patient care.
He established his first family practice in Lockport, Manitoba in 1989, and also served the community of Selkirk as a hospitalist. In 2005, he moved his practice to Jefferson Medical Centre on Arlington St, where he cared for Winnipeg families for fifteen years — retiring only three years before his passing. His dedication inspired both of his children, Dr. Jasbir Bedi and Dr. Prabhjot Bedi, to also pursue medicine.

Generations of patients
Families he cared for across decades, often as friends.
Jokes & harmonica
Known for his humour, his harmonica, and a love of poetry.
In the community's words
"He cared deeply for his patients. He was kind and generous not only to his patients but to his staff as well. He always had a smile on his face that made you feel like the day was going to be just fine."
"He always had time to listen and never made a person feel like you were wasting his time. Rest in peace."
"He was always there for his children, family and community and spent tireless hours making sure that everyone around him was well cared for."
"Such a caring and wonderful man — he would give us his personal cell and home phone in case we ran into trouble while travelling. We will miss him dearly."
Carrying his legacy forward
Dr. Bedi was proud to pass his clinic on to his daughter, Dr. Prabhjot Bedi. As we prepare to reopen Jefferson Medical Centre, the waitlist ensures the families who depended on Dr. Bedi — and new patients in the West End — will be first in line.
In honour of Dr. Bedi, donations may be made in his name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
